Elim Chan conducts selections from Prokofiev’s Cinderella — a harmonically rich, at times whimsical ballet not often heard in an orchestral setting — plus the New York Premiere of Noriko Koide’s Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain, with textures as delicate as the title suggests. Sheku Kanneh-Mason, previously scheduled to perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto, has had to withdraw from his New York Philharmonic appearances this season doing to his ongoing recovery from a finger injury. He is extremely disappointed to be unable to play with the New York Philharmonic and Elim Chan. He is grateful for the support and understanding he has received, and looks forward to returning to the New York Philharmonic. Program: Noriko Koide: Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain (New York Premiere); Saint-Saëns: Cello Concerto No. 1; Prokofiev: Cinderella Suite Performers: Elim Chan (Conductor); Carter Brey (Cello)
