Grammy-nominated composer Nathalie Joachim takes center stage as vocalist in her highly anticipated World Premiere, which, in her words, “reimagines, reframes, and reinterprets” music of Caribbean, American, and Pan-African freedom movements. Also on the program: Lou Harrison’s Gamelan-flavored concerto — featuring the Philharmonic’s own Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim as soloist, accompanied only by percussion — which comes to life with rhythmic verve and kaleidoscopic textures.
