INSTRUMENTS

Elim Chan conducts selections from Prokofiev’s Cinderella — a harmonically rich, at times whimsical ballet not often heard in an orchestral setting — plus the New York Premiere of Noriko Koide’s Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain, with textures as delicate as the title suggests. Principal Cello Carter Brey also takes center stage in Saint-Saëns’s dramatic Cello Concerto No. 1. Sheku Kanneh-Mason, previously scheduled to perform Bloch’s Schelomo, has had to withdraw from his New York Philharmonic appearances this season due to his ongoing recovery from a finger injury. Program: Noriko Koide: Swaddling Silk and Gossamer Rain (New York Premiere); Saint-Saëns: Cello Concerto No. 1; Prokofiev: Cinderella Suite Performers: Elim Chan (Conductor); Carter Brey (Cello)
